Zilker Park a Popular Outdoor Spot near Downtown Austin

It’s no secret that Austin has been a hot topic in the news lately, landing on “Best Of” lists from everyone from Forbes to ABC News, partly due to the lifestyle offered here. One benefit of living in Austin is the abundance of outdoor parks and lakes. One of the most popular outdoor spots is Zilker Park, the 351-acre park located along the southwestern shore of Lady Bird Lake (the Colorado River).

The green fields and trees of Zilker are easily viewed from the top of The Austonian. The park is connected to downtown Austin and The Austonian by the hike-and-bike trails surrounding Lady Bird Lake.

Zilker Park is home to the spring-fed Barton Springs Pool, the Zilker Hillside Theater, the Zilker Botanical Gardens and a number of areas for playing sports and enjoying the outdoors. Events in the park include the annual Kite Festival, the Austin City Limits Music Festival and Blues on the Green.

The Zilker Park video is part of the local public television series “Downtown.” More information about Zilker Park is available here: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/zilker/.
