When the Austin weather forecast predicts daily highs over 100 degrees, a comfortable alternative to braving the heat is cooling off in The Austonian’s 75-foot saltwater pool. The pool, which is currently at a temperature of 78 degrees, includes a swimming area and in-water lounge area.
The pool is surrounded by The Lawn, a green roof terrace that includes cabanas, two outdoor grilling areas and plantings of trees, grasses, herbs and flowering plants. In the summertime, the plants are watered with condensate collected from the building’s HVAC system.
From the pool deck, one can see views of the Texas State Capitol, downtown Austin, Lady Bird Lake and the hill country.
Inside The Austonian, the air is cooled by chilled water piped from an energy-efficient Austin Energy cooling plant located in downtown Austin. The water runs through coils in each home’s air conditioning system, providing more efficient cooling when compared to individual refrigeration units.
