Downtown Austin Fitness: Staying in Shape on Lady Bird Lake

Austin is known for its fit and active community. Kayaks, paddleboats and stand up paddleboards are commonly seen on Lady Bird Lake throughout the year.

In this week’s episode of KLRU Downtown Austinite Benjamin Serrato stays in surf-ready shape by paddling around Lady Bird Lake on his surfboard. While there is no secret surf spot on Lady Bird Lake, this section of the Colorado River is a slice of nature in the heart of Central Austin.

The Austonian, which is just one block north of Lady Bird Lake, is the perfect launching point for summer workouts on the lake. Some of The Austonian’s residents like to roll their kayaks from this high-rise luxury condo to the nearby lakeshore.

Downtown Austin is connected to the lake by a network of trails and parks. On any given day, the trail is busy with runners, walkers and cyclists.
