Austonian Artist Profile: Month-long Roi James Exhibition Begins This Weekend
Austin artist Roi James will open a new solo exhibition at Austin’s Lytle Pressley Contemporarywith a reception this Saturday from 7-10p.m. The show, featuring a small group of works with oils and constructs, will run through December 15th.
The work of Roi James was an inspiration for the art collection of The Austonian high-rise condos in Austin, Texas. It was a dipytych featuring a traditional landscape on one side and a contemporary, abstract image on the other that ultimately became the creative foundation for the collection, which was developed in collaboration with San Antonio-based art consultant Karen Calvert.
As Calvert states in The Austonian art catalog, “In many ways, James’ piece epitomized the vision of The Austonian: to realize a space defined by qualities – sleek design, environmentally friendly, lavish, unpretentious, visually accessible, culturally savvy – that have been traditionally viewed as oppositional or mutually exclusive.”
