Construction at Austin’s tallest building continues to move forward since it’s topping out on September 17, 2009. Window panels have been completed for 75% of The Austonian, and the glass crown, which tops the 683 foot structure, is set for completion in just a few weeks on November 13.
In
addition to continued work on the interior condo finishes, preparations are
underway to begin streetscape, Congress Avenue, and Second Street storefront
work.
Exactly two years after construction of the luxury high-rise began, The Austonian will celebrate its topping out with a party for the hundreds of workers that have contributed to the project today. The workers of Balfour Beatty Construction will enjoy live music, food and a brief presentation. A steel beam signed by the construction team will be hoisted to the top of the 683’ structure to celebrate becoming the tallest residential building in the western United States. The beam is one of six that will support the building’s glass crown. Stay tuned for photos from the event.
The construction of the floors of the building has surpassed the occupied levels (56th is the highest occupied floor) and reached the mechanical floors that top the 59-story structure). Work is underway on Level 58 and concrete for the roof level, which tops the 59th floor, will be poured in two weeks.

The condominium floors of The Austonian are complete and work on the remaining occupied levels, which house the Austonian Club and the Fitness Center, has begun. The construction team will pour concrete for Level 55 on Monday, August 3. The 55th Floor of the building will house The Austonian Club which has 360-degree views of Austin and the surrounding Hill Country and can be configured for large affairs or more intimate events. The total number of floors in The Austonian is 59; the upper levels are housed within the building’s steel and glass crown. The Austonian will continue to grow until it reaches its final height later this fall.
This week, downtown Austin condo project The Austonian poured Level 53, taking the building to a level only three stories shy of the top floor, which is home to the Fitness Center. Construction of the luxury condo project continues to be on target, with the structure topping out in fall 2009.
Interior finish-out is taking place, with flooring, door frames and stone going into individual condo units.

This week Austin’s premier downtown luxury condominium project The Austonian surpassed the height of the Austin 360 Condominiums making it the tallest structure in the capital city.
Level 51 of the building was poured early Tuesday morning, taking the height of The Austonian to 571 feet. Scheduled for late November of this year, the glass crown installation on the top of The Austonian will bring the building to its final height of 683 feet, making the 56-story Austonian the tallest residential building in the western United States.

Level 47 of The Austonian was poured on May 29th, taking the elevation of the building higher than that of the Frost Bank Tower.
A small coincidence: The pouring of Level 47 of The Austonian coincides with the sixth anniversary of the topping out of the Frost Bank Tower. How do we know that? The Austonian construction manager Bob Albanese was also a key player in the construction of the Frost Bank Tower.
As The Austonian continues to climb, it’s becoming clear that the building will join the Frost Bank Tower as one of the iconic structures of the Austin skyline. Over the past several weeks, we’ve focused on interior descriptions of The Austonian. The luxury high rise project continues to ascend into the Austin skyline and now it’s time for a report on construction progress.
Level 45 of The Austonian was poured on May 18, bringing the overall height of the building to 500 feet. Level 47, scheduled to pour in the next several weeks, will take the elevation of The Austonian higher than the Frost Bank Tower. It’s not long until The Austonian is the tallest building in Austin.
As far as interiors go, the catering kitchen and spa framing on level 10 is complete and condo framing has reached level 22. The permanent chilled water supply powering the AC system has been turned on and construction of Building Management offices is underway on Level 9.

It’s been 19 months since The Austonian’s ground breaking. Construction is taking place on the 39th floor and the building will climb at a rate of approximately one floor per week until it reaches its final height of 56 stories, which is expected in late July 2009. When complete, The Austonian will be the tallest building in downtown Austin and the tallest residential high rise in the western United States.
